In the video, Matt Devlin—Hair Loss Consultant at Wimpole Clinic—explains the cost structure and value of a quality hair transplant. He clarifies that pricing is based on the number of follicles needed, typically ranging from £3,500 to £7,500, with no hidden fees. Consultations are free, allowing for scalp assessment and personalised planning. Matt cautions against cheap overseas clinics, stressing the importance of expertise and natural results. He emphasises informed decision-making, realistic expectations, and the clinic’s commitment to supporting patients’ confidence and outcomes.
Hi, my name is Matt Devlin and I’m a hair loss consultant for the Wimpole Clinic in Harley Street, London. Today, I’m going to be talking to you about understanding the cost of a hair transplant.
How expensive is a good hair transplant?
The cost of a hair transplant essentially depends on how many hair follicles need to be extracted and replaced in your head. A typical number to be extracted during a hair transplant might be between 1,500 and 2,000 follicles.
It’s very hard to give an average cost, as it’s totally dependent on the individual person and how severe or advanced their hair loss is. But our procedures range from £3,500 to £7,500. There are no hidden costs — that covers everything from pre-care to aftercare and the surgery itself.
Our initial consultations are free. During that consultation, we’ll examine the scalp to establish its condition and the density of the hair follicles. This is all in the name of being as clear and upfront as possible. We’ll give you an idea of what you can expect if you go ahead with a hair transplant.
It’s not a case of instantly having the rejuvenated hair density of a 10-year-old. We work with the follicles you have on your head, so we want to make sure you totally understand what the procedure involves and what the likely results are.
You see a lot of adverts for cut-price hair transplant clinics, often located abroad. My advice would be to avoid these deals that offer the world at bargain prices — you need expertise for these procedures to truly look natural.
This is our world. We understand how sensitive and important hair can be to self-confidence and self-image. So we’ll make sure that you have everything you need to make the right choices — and come out feeling fantastic about your decisions and the results.
To uncover the true cost of a hair transplant in the UK, we sent 104 UK clinics the same photographs with the same desired result. In this exclusive, we reveal the state of hair restoration treatment across the country: from the price you should be paying for your hair transplant, to the red flags you need to look for when finding your hair transplant surgeon and team.
Wimpole Clinic’s comprehensive 2025 analysis provides a detailed look at UK hair transplant costs, uncovering significant pricing disparities and notable industry insights.
Key Findings:
We caught up with Dr May from the Wimpole Clinic and consulted a panel of global experts to gain their candid insights on hair transplant costs. The result was a compelling blend of scientific explanation, clinical experience, and practical guidance—emphasising the need for transparent graft estimates, reputable clinics, and a clear understanding that higher prices don’t necessarily guarantee better results.
In the end, making an informed decision is crucial—patients must weigh cost against quality to ensure they choose the right provider.
Losing your hair is difficult, which is why hair transplant surgery is so transformative. Hair loss is a natural part of ageing, and it affects millions of people around the world. In fact, two-thirds of men — and around a third of women — will be affected by hair loss at some point in their lives.
But that doesn’t make it any easier to deal with when it happens to you.
Hair loss often leads to low confidence, loss of identity, and even anxiety and depression. It can put a serious dent in your joie de vivre, causing problems when it comes to socialising, dating, and even progressing at work.
Hair transplants have been increasing in popularity for many years now as more people turn to cosmetic surgery to restore their confidence. But the UK has seen a recent rise in the number of shady hair transplant clinics in operation. These clinics are inexperienced at best and unlicensed at worst. They take advantage of the low confidence and high anxiety that stem from losing your hair, promising huge results at extortionately high or suspiciously low prices.
This study is intended as a general guide. We acknowledge that there are gaps in the study, particularly created where clinics were not forthcoming in their responses or gave no response.
We surveyed each of the UK-based clinics and affiliate lead generation websites we could find online. Each clinic was given the opportunity to respond to our survey. As a result, while we acknowledge gaps in our data, we believe this is an accurate reflection of current operations and costs of hair transplants in the UK.Please also note:
